I love making my hand-crafted states. As I file each edge and polish each surface, I think about how each state in this great country is so unique with a distinct celebration of culture from food, to people and history!!

North Carolina - “The Tar Heel State,” …so I had to look up what a Tar Heel was. Part of the early tar & pitch trade, the workers often went barefoot in the summer …hence the name., and often associated with difficult and a “lowly” trade. Civil War soldiers proud of their state decided to flip the script and change the association to an accolade …which stuck as it now boasts itself as the mascot of one of our nation’s great universities!! Go Tar Heels!!
